SNP Wins Big in Midlothian Euro Elections

SNP MSP Christine Grahame has expressed her delight at her party’s showing in the European elections locally in Midlothian that saw the SNP come first ahead of the Labour Party for the first time in a Euro poll. The SNP won 30% of the vote in Midlothian almost 5% ahead of Labour who slumped to second place. Across Scotland the nationalists also secured the largest share of the popular vote again beating Labour into second place. Ms Grahame, whose constituency incorporates Penicuik, said:

“This is a resounding victory for the SNP in Midlothian. The Labour vote has crashed by 15% from the 2004 Euro election with the SNP almost doubling our share of the vote in Midlothian.

“This result places the SNP on a firm footing to win in Midlothian at the forthcoming Westminster election and shows that across Scotland the SNP Government is delivering.

“The Labour party are in terminal decline, mired in sleaze, consumed by in-fighting and completely out of touch with ordinary folk. People in Midlothian are looking for a brighter future and a party with drive and ambition for Scotland. The SNP is demonstrating only it can deliver on that ambition.”

END

SNP = 30.0
Labour = 25.6
Conservatives = 12.4
Liberal Democrats = 10.6
Greens = 7.5
UKIP = 4.8
