Sod Cutting Ceremony – Balnakiel

SNP MSP Christine Grahame will join Managing Director of Tweed Homes, Mr Andy Pearson for the sod cutting ceremony to mark the start of Phase 3 of the affordable houses development at Balnakeil Park on Monday 10th August at 11:00am. Ms Grahame will use and industrial excavator to cut the first sod for the new development.

You are cordially invited to send a photographer and reporter to cover this event.
Ms Grahame and Mr Pearson will be joined by representatives of Eildon Housing association, Scottish Borders Council and the local community council.

A total of 29 new affordable houses (23 for rent and 6 on a shared equity basis) will be built in Phase 3 following a successful application to the Scottish Government for funding for socially rented affordable housing.

The postal address for the new phase will be Penman Place, named after Tweed Homes site manager Bill Penman who passed away shortly after work on Phase 1 was completed. Andy Pearson said:

“Bill was a fine man who enjoyed the complete respect of his colleagues in the industry. He was very active in his local community in Earlston where he worked tirelessly for the Community Council and his church. He lectured in Health and Safety in Glasgow and the Borders College and provided invaluable advice and support to many construction organisations and businesses in the Borders.”
