SNP Small Business Bonus benefits Borders

Over 11,000 Borders businesses will benefit from the Scottish Government's Small Business Bonus scheme, SNP MSP Christine Grahame has revealed today (Thursday).

4,946 local businesses with a rateable value of up to £8,000 will pay nothing from April and those (6,238) businesses in the Scottish Borders with a value between £8-15,000 will be paying half their normal rates at the end of the roll out of the scheme. Ms Grahame welcomed the figures and praised the Scottish Government on a scheme that will help provide jobs and security for businesses across the Borders. Ms Grahame said:

"In April businesses in the Borders with a rateable value up to £8,000 will no longer pay rates under this scheme. That will be money which can be invested back into these businesses to employ extra staff or provide job security in these tough economic times.

"To have over 11,000 businesses across the Borders eventually benefiting is fantastic, it will provide a major lift to the local economy.

"At a time when unemployment is on the rise not just in the Borders but across Scotland, this will help to safeguard and create jobs in the region."
